stupid mirrors

Thursday, February 19, 2015

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago in this post that I was going to be on the hunt for a set of three round mirrors for a narrow wall in my living room.  My mom texted me this picture from Tuesday Mornings.

I thought, "YES.  Get your rear in the car and get those puppies!"  The large one was way to big for my wall so after hitting up a couple different stores I ended up with two small and one medium.  I ran into the house with them and threw them up on the wall only to be super disappointed.  They stunk on my wall.

I texted my mom and a friend this picture and they confirmed it, just in a much nicer way ;)

They're just to clunky on that little wall.

Which means I'm back to square one.  Yuck.

I still can't get these Ballard mirrors out of my head.

This is that mock up I did earlier.  Wouldn't they be so good?!  As is always my luck, they're not available anymore.

I found these in an image search and got super excited... until I saw the price.  Stupid mirrors.  Why do you have to be so expensive???

I've got a set of three plain mirrors that I picked up a while back for next to nothing at Homegoods.  Looks like I'll be using those and going the DIY route.  While I love a good DIY this one has me a little intimidated.  I've never been good with a jigsaw.

Izzy's 6th birthday | plans

Thursday, February 12, 2015

I honestly feel like we just celebrated Izzy's 5th birthday.  I'm having a hard time adjusting to the fact that she will be 6 in just a short few days.  But, ready or not, she is.  And just like every. single. girl. in the entire world, she has requested a Frozen birthday.  I know, I couldn't control the eye roll or dramatic "ughhhh" myself when she told me.  I then had to remind myself it's not about me ;)

Here's a peek into the décor I was putting together today.  I'm trying to go Frozen... without going too Frozen.  We shall see how it turns out!

shiplap bathrooms

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

I've been loving shiplap walls in bathrooms for a while now.  I didn't realize just how much until I went through my Pinterest bathroom board a few days back and found the darn things all over the place.  And then after seeing Cassie's insane bathroom remodel I decided it's time.  Isn't is amazing?!

I want to put it up in both the kids' bathrooms.  My mom is coming to visit soon and I'm going to put her to work on it with me.  "Hey mom!  It's so nice to have you here, I missed you so much!!!  Now go get changed.  We've got a project to tackle."

Here's more shiplap loveliness.  Think of it as my Valentine's gift to you ;)

You can toss those planks floor to ceiling and all around.

Or dip a toe in and do one accent wall.

Vertical is nice too.

We're used to seeing them white, but what about a color?  I love this deep gray.

I absolutely love covering all walls 3/4th of the way up with the shiplap and adding fun wallpaper.  That's going to be my plan for the kids' bathrooms.  I just have no clue what wallpaper I would choose yet.

What do you think?  Is this something you like, or are you already over it?

lacquer box spruce up + living area updates

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

I've had this little black lacquer box hanging around for over a year.  It's good as is, but on the dark metal table I have it on, it blended right in.

All I did was drill a hole in the center and add a knob I had laying around.

Now it has just enough of a something to make it special.

So while I was looking through these photos I decided to play around with some ideas I have had floating around in my head for some empty wall spots.  Here's the photo from above that got me thinking about it.  I've been looking for something to go on either side of the floor mirror in the kitchen nook.  And have also been on the look out for a set of three round graduating mirrors for the space of wall to the right of the window, beside the gray chair in the living room.

Here's what I'm wanting to do.  Framed bird prints on either side of the floor mirror.  And some warm, chunky wood mirrors for the narrow wall in the living room.  Doesn't it look SO much better?!!  I'll wait while you scroll up and down while going "blah.  ooo!  blah.  ooo!" :)

Since we've last talked I've also brought in these pillows I had originally made for the dining room out of Kravet's Latika in Shadow.  And in one of the photos you can see the new coffee table.  We actually ended up switching it out for a different color though.

So, now I'll be on the hunt for large bird prints that aren't stupid expensive.  Let me know if you have any ideas for places I can find them cheap!  And I'll be trying to recreate those mirrors since the darn things are no longer available from Ballard.  Poop.
