high & low(s)

I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend!  I'm nice and relaxed... and burnt.  Just the way it should be I suppose ;)

So... I'm not yet half way through my day and I've already experienced my high and lows for the day.

Carpets got professionally cleaned!  Woot woot!!!  I feel like a new woman.  It has been on the to-do list for a while now, and I'm THRILLED to have it finally crossed off.

Pup is in confinement for a few hours until it dries.  He could care less as long as he's got his bed.

Not one hour after the carpets were cleaned, raspberry jelly found it's way from Izzy's mouth to the living room carpet.  WHY???!!!!!

Good thing I bought their expensive spot cleaner :/

Time to relax with a nice, ice cold beverage... or not.  "Why you're not an ice cube!"

Our ice maker has apparently decided to eat itself.  Looks like a new refrigerator is on the horizon.  Awesome.

Thank God I'm still on Cloud 9 about the carpets being cleaned ;)

hunting down the winged unicorn

I did it.  I finally hunted down and snagged the winged unicorn, aka the fiddle leaf fig.

It was the most ridiculous search, much like trying to find something that never existed.

I got a lot of, "Good luck.  If I can't find one, you'll never find one."  So, I took it as a challenge.

It may not be one of the tall tree like versions I've had my eyes on, but that's ok.

{via Pinterest via ???}

All I was after was to add a little life to this corner of the living room, and I think he fits in just fine.  And if all goes well he'll grow up to be like the big kids above!

And, look ma!  I've not killed it yet, it's actually growing!!!  Another win for  me :D

What do you guys think?  Are you still in love the full leafy loveliness of the fiddle leaf, or are you sick and tired of it already?

play day

I took Izzy to the botanical garden in town the other day.  She's been asking to go for a while now.  It's been a year since we last hit them up... whoops!

Botanica really upped their game when they opened the children's garden.  They now have lots of fun stuff especially made for kids.

I'm THE WORST at getting photos off my phone, so this last group is from last year ;)

I'm finding I like spring and summer much more now that I have a child.  I can really appreciate getting outside and letting her just run off some energy.  Hopefully it won't be another year before I get her back out there!

eat this

A while back my recipe box went from looking a something like this...

to this...

Anymore, if I'm wondering what to make for dinner it's my Pinterest food board I head straight for.

I'm not a fan of cooking so it's easy for me to get stuck in a rut and make the same meal over and over again.  Trying out new recipes I've found on Pinterest has been a welcomed blessing in our house ;)

Here are some I've recently made and definitely recommend.

Tuscan Pasta with Tomato Basil Cream
(Made this Friday night, couldn't have been easier)

Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana Soup
(Psst... This seriously tastes like the real deal)

Crispy Southwest Chicken Wraps
(The rice mixture alone is Heaven)

Hawaiian Turkey Burgers
(We make these ALL. THE. TIME.)

Lime Cilantro Rice
(Amazing side for a Mexican dish)

Veggie Muffins
(Perfect for Izzy, who will not touch a veggie to save her life.  We call them cupcakes)

Lemon White Chip Cookies
(A refreshing swap for the classic chocolate chip)

Do you guys head to Pinterest for dinner inspiration?  Do you have a Pinterest recipe you think is too insane in the membrane for me not to try?  Let me know!!!

And... don't forget to enter yourself in to win 250 custom stickers!  Last chance to enter ends tonight!

dog silhouette art - tutorial

You guys have been asking for a tutorial on the dog art I made for Izzy's room.

Well, I FINALLY got my rear in gear and got it put together for you!

What you'll need:
  • wood panel (I used a precut 16x36 piece found at my local home improvement store)
  • primer (not a must)
  • paint for background
  • paint for silhouette
  • sand paper
  • stain
  • computer with printer and paper
  • chalk
  • pencil
  • tape
Here we go!

STEP ONE: Prime your piece of wood. This is optional. I did it because I wanted to see some of the darker gray primer show through when I distressed it.
STEP TWO: Paint on your background color and let dry.

STEP THREE: Using your computer, print out the image you want.  I used Microsoft Publisher and created a custom sized page design to match the size of my pieces of wood (16"x36"). I changed the image to print out in a light grayscale so I didn't waste a bunch of ink.  Line up and tape together your sheets of paper.

STEP FOUR: Flip the paper over and rub the entire backside with chalk.

STEP FIVE: Position the paper on the piece of wood and trace around the image with a pencil.  Remove the paper and you will have a chalk outline of your image.

STEP SIX: Use a small paint brush to trace and fill in the image. Let dry

STEP SEVEN: If you'd like, distress the edges and lightly sand over the front of the entire piece. To give it a little more of an aged look you can dip a paper towel into some stain and rub it over the front and edges and let dry.

That's it, you're done!
