Izzy's Play Kitchen

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

I've known for a while that I wanted to get Izzy a play kitchen for Christmas.  I fell in love with the ones at PB Kids.  But, at $800 I just wasn't feeling it.  Ha!  In my search for a way to make one I came across Ana White's website and fell in love with one of her plans for a play kitchen.  Looked simple enough.  And, after looking through her website I was convinced I could build anything!  I'll never have to buy a piece of furniture again!!!  Muahhh ha ha!  Ok, back to reality.

It really was pretty simple to build.  I only ran into a couple of problems, but they could have easily been prevented.  Remember: primer is your friend (especially when using red paint) and cursing at the nail gun won't get it to stop shooting nails out the side of the piece your working on (it apparently didn't like knots in the wood).  Oh, and for whatever reason hinges are a booger, but I'm not sure how to prevent that.  Other than that it went pretty smoothly ;)  I think we spent a little under $125 on the whole thing!

My mom gave me the little table and chair set we used to have as kids.  I didn't know this until recently, but apparently it was her set when she was little too!  It was in pretty rough shape.  Table top split down the center, legs falling off, and chair seats coming apart.  Guess we might have been a little rough on it ;)  I ended up repairing and repainting the set so she could have that as well.  I'll do a seperate little post on that later.

Izzy was so excited when she saw it sitting in the livingroom Christmas morning.  I was thrilled she loved it.  It is now her favorite toy.  When she wants to play with it (it's in the basement) I hear, "Mommy, downstairs.  Play, sink!"  It's so darn cute!
